The City of Broken Arrow announced a new multi-million dollar development on Aspen near the Creek Turnpike.
It will include a Reasor's, apartments, and space for businesses.
City leaders and those involved in the project say this has been in the works for several years. They say it shows the progress and growth that's happening in South Broken Arrow.
This field near Aspen Ave just north of the Creek Turnpike is full of dozens of soccer goals right now, but Broken Arrow's city leadership says the development coming here will serve as a catalyst for the community.
"There's only two directions a community can go, there's no such thing as stagnant. You're either moving forward or you're moving backwards. Today we're going to prove to you the city of Broken Arrow is moving forward, and we're not moving forward slowly," Broken Arrow Economic Development Coordinator Norm Stephens said.
Soon, work will begin on a new Reasor's here. The developer is also building another 200,000 square feet of retail space, and a 168-unit apartment complex.
City leaders say this adds up to $40 million in new private investment.
"We just needed the rooftops and the traffic counts, it's taken several years and we've now demonstrated to developers this is a good investment," BA City Manager Michael Spurgeon said.
City Manager Michael Spurgeon says the project is proof of progress to those living in BA, who've wanted more places to shop for food after the Reasor's left Elm and New Orleans a few years ago.
"We just want to say we heard you, and we're going to be working very hard to try and bring this project out of the ground as soon as we possibly can, so those folks who migh be shopping in some other community can now spend their dollars here in Broken Arrow," Spurgeon said.
Broken Arrow leaders expect construction to start sometime this year.
