The City of Tulsa took their annual surplus auction online this year and it has some items that may surprise you.

From vehicles to lab equipment, the city is even selling a fire truck, with a current bid of $16,000.

Rich Gonter runs the City of Tulsa surplus warehouse. It's his job to store and sell all the city's extra stuff that various departments have either replaced or no longer need.

"Water and sewer departments, streets and stormwater, fire department, police department, every department basically uses this facility," Gonter said. "The city did $1.2 million last year, just in sales of surplus."

Even the most mundane items - like old water meters - can make the city some serious money when sold in bulk.

Computers, TV's, and other tech does OK, but the real money is in heavy machinery like backhoes and dump trucks. All that money will go right back into the city's funds.

"It's becoming more and more I think a money maker for the city," Gonter said.

Because of the pandemic, the normally in-person auction went all-online.

Gonter said that's a good thing because more people mean bigger bids. That means more money for the city.

"Anyone can participate. Out of state, in state," Gonter said.

The auction ends on the 27th. Click the link here to enter the bidding process.
