A metro mother and her 2-year-old child were attacked in a parking lot, according to authorities.
Oklahoma City police said the attack was unprovoked.
Police said they were originally called to the scene for an unrelated disturbance.
Friday morning, police were called to an apartment complex on Rockwell near Northwest Expressway. A caller told dispatchers a woman was destroying her apartment and threatening to kill her.
According to the police report, the suspect left the apartment, only to attack a stranger in the parking lot.
“For whatever reason, the woman causing the disturbance turned, ran over to where the woman and the child were, and attacked them,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The police report also said the mother “began to scream for help but also had to fight back against the attack.”
“She ended up taking the 2-year-old child and pinning it to the ground holding it buy its throat,” said Knight.
The child sustained scratches to his face and “bruising on his forehead which appeared to be in the shape of the imprint of fingers.”
The mother had a small scrape from being pushed to the ground.
“The mother was able to get the woman off of the child. It is unclear what made her turn on these two people, but she clearly did there were witnesses out there who corroborated that story and the injuries on the child corroborated the story,” said Knight.
Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Patience Montgomery.
Montgomery is accused of destroying private and public property and assault and battery. She is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
