Travelers will soon see construction starting on a new hotel at Tulsa International Airport. Demolition is happening now to make way for the new hotel.
The Clarion Inn sat vacant for about a year and a half after closing their doors in March of 2020.
Promise Hotels is a Tulsa-based hotel management company and own the property of the new hotel location.
Pete Patel with Promise Hotels said they have a lot of work ahead of them as they tear down the existing Clarion Inn and make plans for opening a new hotel.
“I hate to see it go, but we’re going to have a brand-new hotel on this site in the next couple of years and we’re very excited to serve our guests with a new product," said Patel.
Since the closing of the Clarion Inn, people who want to stay on airport property are staying at the Garden Inn across the street.
Johnathan Gobbo with TIA said there is a need for a second hotel on property and they are excited about the changes.
“Travel is picking up and of course with our lovely Oklahoma weather you never know if you might get stuck in Tulsa. So, having hotels on property make a huge difference," said Gobbo.
Patel said construction crews should have the lot cleared out within the next 30 days. After than they'll begin plans for the new hotel which is expected to be open by spring of 2023.
