Tecumseh police said they’ve identified the vehicle involved in a crash that killed a bicyclist.
The crash happened near the intersection of US HWY 177 and Benson Park Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police said James Kinnamon, 52, died at the hospital.
“He was probably westbound on Benson Park on his bicycle along the southern edge of the roadway,” Tecumseh Police Chief J.R. Kidney said. “The suspect vehicle was eastbound on Benson Park, striking him.”
Cameras on an Absentee Shawnee Tribe building nearby caught the alleged suspect’s vehicle, a white Hyundai Sonata missing a side mirror, driving into town.
Police found a broken side mirror at the scene on the crash.
Police took to social media for help.
“We got flooded with private messages and even some pictures of our suspect vehicle,” Kidney said. “We were able yesterday to locate that vehicle north of Shawnee, it has been impounded.”
The owner of the vehicle told police her boyfriend was behind the wheel; a man police are still trying to find.
Driving off, whatever the circumstance may be, police said is a bad idea.
“It's hard for a police officer, an investigator, (or the) district attorney’s office to want to work and help anybody in those means,” Kidney said.
Tecumseh police have since received a search warrant for the vehicle and continue to interview everyone inside at the time of the crash.
