A new hotel is going up at 36th Street North and Martin Luther King Boulevard. The Alfresco Group said they chose the intersection for the new hotel because of the view that overlooks the downtown Tulsa skyline.

The groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday created a lot of excitement for people who live in the area. “It’s about vision. Without a vision, people perish and because of lack of rebuilding, lack of good infrastructure in north Tulsa for the youth it left little vision for them to even dream about,” said Mary Williams.

Williams grew up in the same area where the new hotel will be built and hopes this will bring jobs and future growth to that area.

“Tulsa has a story that no one else has. This is again us this project is about Tulsa and I don’t want to move away from that. It really is a collective story," said Antoine Harris.

Harris is the CEO of the Alfresco Group, the minority-owned real estate company building the hotel. He is naming it Stradford21 after J.B. Stradford, who founded Stradford hotel in 1918, which was burned down during the 1921 race massacre. "Honoring JB Stradford and all those that came before us with this significant project. I think that there would be no other way to show up," said Harris.

The hotel will have 109 rooms and Harris said the project will also have 10,000 square feet for retail space. Harris said construction will finish in 2023.
