Basic Pinwheel Danish
1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
Melted butter
Fruit jam, flavor is your choice
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Defrost the puff pastry according to package instructions. KEEP PUFF PASTRY COLD AT ALL TIMES!!!
Work with one sheet at a time and keep the other sheet in the refrigerator.
Flour a flat surface and set the puff pastry sheet in the middle.
Cut into 4 even squares.
Transfer the squares to the prepared baking sheet.
To create the pinwheel:
Brush the square with melted butter. Cut a slit in each corner of the pastry square to center 2 inches long.
Pull one corner of the cut square to the center, skip the next one and pull the next slit to the center and repeat till there are 4 slits in the center.
Press the center connecting points into the bottom pastry.
Brush with egg wash and add a ½ teaspoon on jam into the center.
Repeat with the remaining squares.
Bake the pinwheels for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
**Make the night before. Cover with plastic wrap and bake in the morning for 25 minutes.
