TU opened conference play at home, hosting Houston at Chapman Stadium under the Friday night lights.

Tulsa was without top defender Jaxon Player for the first half of Friday night’s American Athletic Conference opener because of a targeting call last week.

The Golden Hurricane's offense had trouble getting anything done, but was able to put up a field goal before the end of the first half, making it 28-3.

The Houston Cougars were no match for the Golden Hurricane. Davis Brin threw three interceptions, one returned for a pick six, but did toss for 258 yards with a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The running game struggled. Sammy Watkins with 39 yards and Shamari Brooks with -2 rushing.

Houston scored in every quarter Friday night and the final, 45-10, Cougars.

Tulsa will look to clean things up next week as they welcome in Memphis.
