A former public servant is now facing charges for possession of child porn. Paul Hobbs, 44, is facing serious allegations after someone tipped off federal investigators.
Canadian County deputies picked up the case. They said things took an unexpected turn when they found out Hobbs is a former officer and has two homes.
“We were given this tip that a person in our county was in possession and distribution of child pornography,” said Major Adam Flowers with the Canadian County Sherriff’s Office.
Hobbs worked in Warr Acres as a police officer from 2000 to 2006. Deputies said he has since started a new career in the medical field.
“We found that Mr. Hobbs goes back and forth between Yukon and Ada as he was employed by Ada as a nurse,” said Flowers.
In August, Canadian County deputies searched his Yukon residence. The probable cause affidavit states they found multiple devices with child porn. The images contained “female children” between the ages of “5 to 16.”
“With the child pornography that he exhibited we believe that there could be victims out there because this wasn’t just a fantasy to him,” said Flowers.
Investigators said they found images that were ‘altered.’
“Images that he printed out and had on the walls, magnets on the refrigerators and even in locked containers at his Ada residence,” said Flowers.
They arrested Hobbs on one complaint of possession of child pornography. He has since bonded out of jail, but officials think with the help of the public more charges could follow.
“Usually with somebody that procures child pornography at the point that Mr. Hobbs has collected we believe that there could be victims out there that are just waiting for their story to be told,” he said.
Hobbs' preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 20.
