State Health Commissioner Lance Frye said in a media briefing Thursday that things are looking up. The new case 7-day average is 56% lower than the peak number reported on August 30th.

"We hope that they don't go up. It is certainly something that we are going to be watching closely. What we are seeing around the world as we look at the numbers globally when we look around the world is that the delta is the primary variant, but they are going down everywhere really," said Frye.

As for vaccinations, more than 4 million doses have been administered here in Oklahoma. 80% of Oklahomans 65 and older have been vaccinated and 56% of the overall adult population.

Deputy Commissioner Keith Reed said during the meeting, over the past 7 days around 3,200 Oklahomans got their first dose of the vaccine. He says the number of people getting their first dose went up a bit and now the amount is starting to plateau again.

"That is better than our low which was the first week of July which was around 2300 people, but it has come down from what we were seeing that kind of coincided with the peak of this current surge we are in," said Reed.

As we head into the holidays, the state says getting vaccinated is still the best way to protect yourself and your family.

OU Health COVID expert, Dr. Dale Bratzler said family gatherings are safe if everyone has gotten their shot.

People who are immune compromised are now eligible for a third dose of the vaccine. More than 90,000 Oklahomans have gotten that shot.
