The FDA may authorize mixing and matching COVID-19 booster shots as soon as Wednesday.
The policy could give Americans and health officials more freedom in maintaining protection against the virus. The CDC's advisory committee will begin a two-day meeting to discuss whether to recommend the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters. Also as soon as Wednesday, the FDA is expected to authorize mixing and matching different boosters and research suggests that could provide better immunity in many cases. A new study shows the vaccine is even more effective against hospitalization for kids than it is for adults. The study found the shots are 93-percent effective against hospitalization for kids and 88-percent effective for adults.
The CDC will meet in early November to discuss vaccinating kids ages 5 to 11. So far, A little more than 65-percent of eligible Americans are fully vaccinated.
