One person is dead after a chase suspect crashed into a vehicle in an intersection Monday night in southwest Oklahoma City.
The crash happened near SW 104th and Pennsylvania Avenue when the suspect vehicle hit another vehicle.
Police said the person who died was in another vehicle and was an innocent bystander. The intersection was closed due to the crash.
The chase began earlier near Interstate 44 and SW 104th Street when an officer tried to pull over the vehicle for a traffic violation, police said.
Officers called off the pursuit due to high rates of speed. The suspect vehicle continued and crashed into an SUV, which was a company vehicle for the Diagnostic Laboratory of Oklahoma, police said.
"Anytime an officer is in a pursuit, the speeds or any other factors which the officer feels could be danger depending on several things, then they have the ability to terminate that pursuit," Oklahoma City police Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said.
Police said three teens were in the suspect vehicle and were detained after the crash. The driver has not been identified.
