The family of a man electrocuted at the Bricktown Canal back in 2018 is now suing an electrical company.
Wesley Seeley’s family said Libra Electric Company (LEC) knew the bollards lining the canal were dangerous and did not alert their client, the City of Oklahoma City.
Small details were discussed in the courtroom Tuesday, but attorneys said these details are important because a life was lost.
Seeley, 23, was electrocuted and was killed in fall 2018.
A video from that night showed the fixture snapping. The video was played this week during the trial.
A good Samaritan, Brandon Gann, was badly injured trying to help Seeley.
Gann and his wife are also a part of this legal fight against Libra Electric Company, Brickopolis Entertainment and USA Property Management.
These families alleged the electric company knew about the “obvious dangerous conditions” of the bollards and the company did not let the city or the public know.
LEC had previously claimed in court documents the city should have known about any issues with the fixtures.
On Tuesday, attorneys from both sides questioned a supervisor for LEC about work done in March 2018, just months before Seeley’s death.
The City requested LEC remove the bollards in front of Brickopolis, but managers of the business asked them to stop since it was spring break.
On Tuesday, they questioned the supervisor and the employees who performed and halted the work about supplies, how they left the bollards, what work was done and who instructed them.
The City has already settled with Gann and Seeley’s family.
Attorneys for the Ganns and Seeley’s family told News 9 they don’t know how long the trial will last, but hearing the truth is important.
News 9 has reached out to LEC’s attorneys and are waiting to hear back.
