Edmond Public Schools is hosting a transportation job fair Thursday in the hopes of hiring more bus drivers. The district is currently facing a major shortage.
Edmond Public Schools is currently around 25 bus drivers short. The district says the staff shortage is causing significant problems, and they are hoping this job fair will help improve those numbers.
An Edmond Public School bus driver will be paid a little less than 15 dollars an hour.
The district says drivers will also receive training and benefits, including medical insurance.
EPS says one of the biggest problems with this shortage is the size of the school district itself. Stretching from Logan County to east of I-35, the lack of drivers makes lengthy bus routes even longer.
"It is not ideal to have children stand out waiting for the bus in the cold and the dark. We are getting into the winter months," said
Susan Parks-Schlepp, the Director of Communications for Edmond Public Schools. "We want to end these delays, but we have to have more drivers to be able to do that."
Thursday's job fair will have two time slots, the first from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the next from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Santa Fe High School Welcome Center.
