Police identified a man killed in a shooting Wednesday night in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood.
Anthony Hooks, 52, was found shot to death when officers arrived at the scene.
Oklahoma City police arrived to a residence near Western Avenue and NW 36th Street and found Hooks in the front yard.
“Sadly, this person died on scene. Right now, it's really early in the investigation. There were several shell casings on scene. We're gathering as much information as we can,” Oklahoma City police Sgt. Dillon Quirk said.
This is the 81st homicide this year.
“Society has gotten really out of hand. What we need is a lot of gun control. These youngsters getting these guns and it's just not good,” Kenneth Tillis said.
Tillis lives near the home where Hooks was killed. He said he's been in the neighborhood for 35 years. He describes his side of the street as a peaceful quiet area, but it's not the same story across the intersection.
“Sometimes, you just be afraid to drive through the neighborhood. Down there, especially. I don't know why they all kind of pile down there, but they do,” Tillis said.
Tillis said this shooting may be close to home but it isn't enough to drive him away.
“It don't scare me. We just need better people to move in here, and it seems like it's happening. Like I said, I've been here since 1986, and I ain't going nowhere,” he said.
As of Thursday evening, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Oklahoma City police's homicide tip line at 405-297-1200.
