Tulsa's historic Redfork neighborhood is gearing up for Christmas.

The Tulsa Route 66 Main Street held a "lights on" event on Southwest Boulevard.

Santa came by to get photos with kids, more than a month ahead of his big day.

The event comes as part of a new interest in the area.

"I think over here it started with Crystal City, that used to be empty and now it's pretty full. There's also the Route 66 Historical Village, and they have new shiny Depot over there, and there just seems to be a renewed energy or excitement around Route 66," said Christine Hamner from Tulsa Route 66 Main Street.

Redfork was the site of Tulsa County's first oil well, but eventually fell on hard times. The area is now making a comeback, with several new businesses moving in.
