In Mayfield, Kentucky, people are in desperate need for basic supplies after much of the town's infrastructure was destroyed by Friday's tornados.

There's no power, no water and it's cold.

There's incredible need right now in across the state.

Amanda Vaca has six kids. Five were with her and rode out the tornado in a crawl space on beneath their house.

She didn't know if her kids would survive.

"We were down there and I didn't know if that would be the last time, so I just kept telling them I loved them over and over. I didn't know which kid to grab. I kept touching each one of them. My daughter, she was sitting behind me and I just said, 'Hold on to me,'" Vaca said.

Not knowing if she would survive to be there for her kids, Vaca had her youngest prepare for the worst.

"As we were down there, we just came up with a plan. She just kept repeating her name and address and phone number and I put my watch on her just in case 'cause that has contact information,” she said.

The Vaca family survived.

They can still stay in the house, but it's been below freezing at night.

"I put all the kids in one room; the smallest room that there is with a bunch of blankets so that body heat can really help them out," she said.

On Tuesday, they received supplies from WorldVision.

Pallets of supplies are being distributed across the region.

"We were just trying to get whatever we can get for the house. Water, especially, because we can't drink the water that we do have now,” she said.

A familiar face from Oklahoma is here to help.

Pastor Derrick Scobey of Oklahoma City’s Ebenezer Baptist Church is working to help with disaster relief efforts.

"The people here in Kentucky that I have seen thus far is, I would label them, Kentucky Strong," Scobey said.

WorldVision is no stranger in Oklahoma. They've offered pandemic relief now for 18 months in partnership with Scobey's church.

"WorldVision has contributed close to $10 million in product and food to the citizens of Oklahoma,” Scobey said.

Now, he's giving back alongside dozens of other tireless volunteers.

"Sleep comes later, for us and I'm sure others as well," he said.
