In January of 2021, Rick Overton set a New Year’s resolution for running. Almost a year later, and he’s sticking to his commitment.
"Probably not the wisest thing to be running on the slick roads, but I put in my 5 miles that morning," said Rick Overton.
He's been running that exact route around Scissortail Park the entirety of the last year and the finish line, hopefully, is the Boston Marathon.
"I felt like this past year was the year I possibly had the capacity," said Overton.
After training and running the OKC Memorial Marathon, a Seattle marathon and a Dallas marathon, his resolution turned to a qualification.
Running has given him a new outlook on life, to be a better version of himself. Physically and mentally, it has also given him a new support group.
"We run in the morning and we race together but believe it or not, when we hang out we do not just talk about running," said Overton.
He trains with the "red coyote running club" and with others in cycling and strength classes.
While many of us are not as dedicated to our resolutions as Rick, he says it's all about changing your mentality.
