As hospitals across the country see more COVID-19 cases, doctors are asking Oklahomans to be smart this Christmas season.
Doctors say parents need to know when to take their child to urgent care versus an emergency room.
Dr. Ryan Brown, a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist with OU Health, says they are trying to increase staffing and when things get busy, they have a system in place to handle it.
"We have a triage system. We are going to make sure that the sickest kids are seen first. If your child is having a severe injury, a severe allergic reaction and a severe asthma attack, we are going to make sure that we see them as fast as we can," said Dr. Brown.
Doctors also ask that any cleaning supplies, chemicals, and firearms are locked away and out of reach from children.
