Bixby school leaders are hosting three community meetings to discuss a more than $110 million bond issue on the ballot in February’s election. The bond calls for the construction of a new high school and renovations to the football stadium and classrooms at other school sites.

$70 million would be allocated towards a new high school just south of the current football stadium. Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Rob Miller says modern technology, an outdoor learning area and a collaboration café would be among the plans for the new school.

If the bond passes, the district is hopeful the new school will be complete by fall 2024. The bond calls for upgrades to other sites, including more than $9 million for expansion at the West Elementary/Intermediate school.

More than $8.5 million is being allocated towards football stadium upgrades, including more bleachers and concessions.

Miller says the moves would help accommodate a growing community and school district.

“We know that our population student enrollment here at the high school is going to increase by about 300 students in the next three years and about 800 to a thousand students over the next eight to nine years,” said Miller. “We’ve got to be ready for that influx of new students.”

The district is hosting community meetings to allow anyone with questions about the bond issue the chance to speak. The first one is now scheduled for next Wednesday, January 19.

The fate of the bond will be decided by voters during February 8’s election.
