The Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District continues to grow with an expected 3,500 new residents in the next five to 10 years. That's why the superintendent said now is the time to pass a new bond issue.

"We need to take care of our student population and the growth," said David Reid, the Superintendent of Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District.

The district hasn't had a bond issue on the ballot for 14 years.

The last bond provided funding for Choctaw Middle School and Nicoma Park Elementary, but as leaders work to continue to improve the district, they believe it's time to ask the community for help.

"Currently, seven of our nine sites use outdoor buildings, so we wanted to add classrooms, but we also needed to add two new elementary schools," said Reid.

They want to create safe rooms, a multipurpose indoor facility, and efficient transportation along with additional classrooms.

But one of the largest changes would be a pick-up lane for parents.

"We are a 6A school district, but we have mostly two-lane roads except for the high school, so the parents are backed up on the streets," said Reid.

Superintendent Reid said they want this money to allow kids to have a chance to succeed, no matter what their path may be.

"We have money set aside for all of our groups. We want to touch all of the fine arts, all of the athletics and the AFJROTC program," said Reid. "So every one of our sites gets something."

The district wants voters to know there will be no tax increase to you, and anyone living in the Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools district has a chance to vote on this Feb. 8th.
