An old Broken Arrow movie theater that sat vacant for a decade is restored to its former glory.
The New Orleans Square Theater is now showing movies and welcoming visitors. Manager Justin Garrison says the movie theater is full of memories and nostalgia for people who grew up in Broken Arrow. Now that it's back in action, it's ready for new memories.
Tucked behind the shopping center on Elm Place in New Orleans Square, you'll find the theater. With purple, green, and gold colors and eclectic décor, it's bringing a New Orleans style to Broken Arrow. Garrison says after a lot of hard work and some setbacks, the theater is finally ready to fill the seats. He says the goal is to provide an affordable experience for the whole family to see a movie together.
Tickets and concessions are set at lower-than-average prices. You can also get all-you-can-eat popcorn for $5.50.
They're showing new releases and eventually hope to host stand-up comedy and magic shows, and stream
UFC fights and football games.
Garrison is from Broken Arrow and says he remembers going to the theater as a kid.
"Whenever I was growing up, this was the only movie theater even in town. So, you'd get the Sunday newspaper and see the showtimes in the newspaper, and you get to come here and watch a movie. It was the only place in town to do it,” Garrison said.
The theater has afternoon and evening showtimes. Tickets are $4.75 for kids and seniors and $6.75 for adults.
