The City of Tulsa said it’s ready for the incoming winter weather and some crews are already out treating the roads.

Street maintenance manager Tim McCorkell said the benefit to this system is that it’s coming in dry so they’re able to put brine solutions down on the roadways beforehand.

The city said brine truck crews started coming in at midnight to start treating bridges and hills ahead of the forecasted weather.

Other crews started their day at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning waiting for the weather to get here.

Tons of salt is on hand to combat any precipitation.

Crews from several different city departments will be treating the roads in the coming days.

McCorkell said sleet is what they’re expecting in the Tulsa area and the mixture they’re putting down will help.

Drivers are asked to stay home if they can, but if you do go out, give these trucks plenty of room.

“Don’t encroach them, stay back behind them, if you don’t have to go out please don’t go out because a lot of times vehicles get stuck especially on the hills and then that just keeps us from doing our jobs,” McCorkell said.

Crews will be working rotating 12-hour shifts until all of the streets have been cleared.
