A group of veterans is heading to Washington D.C. on Tuesday morning for the annual Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight.
The flight will celebrate 91 veterans by taking them to see monuments in D.C. in their honor.
Veterans attended a welcome ceremony last night at the Hard Rock Casino and will fly out of Tulsa International Airport on Tuesday morning.
According to the group, the goal of the trip is to honor the veterans for the sacrifices they have made.
They will be on the ground in D.C. for eight hours and visit several monuments and memorials including the USMC (Iwo Jima Memorial), Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Korean War Memorial, and the World War 2 Memorial.
Of the 91 veterans on the flight, there are 5 World War 2 veterans and 1 Korean War veteran. The trip is provided at no cost.
Veterans say they are thankful to be honored in such a unique way.
“We take for granted life, we take for granted where we live, we take for granted that people are bad. But this is the greatest expression of appreciation that I have ever seen,” said one of the veterans.
Their flight is set to return to Tulsa International at 8:30 p.m. and there will be a welcome home ceremony when they arrive.
