A man admits he beat a woman who was managing a downtown Tulsa hotel.
The victim said now that the suspect has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to prison, she can start moving forward from this horrific situation. Stephanie Pomeroy has recovered physically, but emotionally she still has a long way to go. Just a few weeks ago, Stephanie Pomeroy was shell-shocked after the attack. Now, she's physically doing better.
"Mentally I don't know if I'm ready to go back there," she said.
Stephanie has worked at a downtown Tulsa hotel for 5 years and worked her way up to general manager. On the day of the attack, she saw LaCount McClendon outside and gave him directions. She says McClendon came back and was taking off his clothes, so she asked him to leave– and that's when he brutally beat her.
"I have to really think, I was beaten, I was brutally attacked, I was stomped on, kicked," said Pomeroy.
Good Samaritans nearby ran over to help but Stephanie was bruised and hurt all over.
“I don't remember any of it. It's crazy because I have the bruises and the wounds. This happened. I know it happened, but it's amazing what our bodies do to protect us," she said.
But on Tuesday, McClendon pleaded guilty and was given a 20-year sentence– a surprise to everyone.
"That's 20 years that people won't have to worry about being hurt again," she said.
Prosecutor Kenneth Elmore said he Is proud of Stephanie and all the people who helped and thankful for the conviction.
“In this instance, we were able to get a swift and just resolution that he's taking accountability for what he did," she said.
Stephanie said she's still recovering but eventually wants to return to her job and is thankful for all the support from her friends and family.
