It’s Tax Day, but some people across the country and around the Tulsa area have found a way to make it a little better.
Monday is Chill Out Day, and Kona Ice trucks are giving out free snow cones. The Kona Ice truck owners say their business usually caters to kids, but this day is about the adults too. People got to freeze their to-do list and take a break to chill out.
The franchise says Chill Out Day means no taxation without relaxation. Stephen Hager and his brothers own Kona Ice of Midtown Tulsa. He says it's an honor to bring the national tradition to his hometown. Each year, Kona Ice trucks across the country give out free snow cones on the same day as the federal tax deadline. People got a chance to take a breather from last-minute filings and to wash away the Monday blues. Some people stopped by on breaks from work and some took their families.
The Kona Ice Truck parked at New Orleans Square in Broken Arrow then moved to Tulsa outside BancFirst at 51st and Memorial.
"Nobody gets excited about Tax Day. So, with Kona, because we spend so much time taking care of kids, this is our way of being able to take care of mom and dad and all the adults. Anybody that comes out, we give you a free Kona Ice just to try to take a little bit of that sting from Tax Day away,” Hager said.
Hager says Kona Ice caters for events for teams and businesses and fundraisers for schools and non-profits.
