Man Says His Stolen Phone Helped Police Find His Stolen Car

A Tulsa man said he is grateful to his friend who helped the police recover his stolen car in less than 2 hours. Khalid Green, a musical artist in the area otherwise known as 'KG Tha Phenom', said his manager tracked his phone, which led officers right to the car.

"It was supposed to be a 'quick trip,'" said Green. Green said it had been a great day. He had an Easter egg hunt with his daughters and spent hours working on his music when he decided to take a break. He went to Taco Bell. "Got a free meal out of it. Woo Hoo. You know,” said Green.

He then decided to stop off at a gas station for a drink to wash it all down. Green said he knew he made a mistake when he left his car running and his phone inside it at the QuikTrip near 51st and Sheridan at around 8:50 on Sunday.

"I had a spiritual sense that, ugh, maybe I shouldn't, but of course stubbornly I went against it because it was supposed to be a 'quick trip,’” said Green. Green said surveillance video shows a car park beside him, and a woman go inside the Q-T while a man in the rear passenger side gets out of the car and begins peering into Green's windows.

"He popped my car door open, jumped in, reversed out, and took off the opposite way," said Green. "It showed me coming out like literally 10 seconds after. It was so short. It really was not long at all, and my car was nowhere to be found. I felt like I was in a movie. Twilight Zone."

Green asked the driver in the car next to him what happened. "He said he saw somebody walk over there, jump in and take off," said Green.

Green ran back into the QT to use the clerk’s phone and call the police. He said police responded quickly. He learned he could've gotten a ticket for leaving his car running in the first place. "I honestly had no idea about this, so I was really grateful, thank you so much that he didn't write me a ticket for that,” said Green.

He said the police were helpful. "With me and my circumstances, they were awesome. Super professional. Super respectful and I give them utmost appreciation. Thank you so much for helping me out,” said Green.

Green tried to stay levelheaded. "Just really praying. Trying to keep my energy in the right place, as angry as I was. Like I was completely discombobulated, but I didn't let my emotions control me. I kept myself real punctual. Sane. Calm. Just praying like, 'please, please let everything work out for the best,' cause like I own my car. I paid it off. My phone, it's expensive. I got children and stuff. It's just like too many responsibilities to be having this kind of mishap," said Green.

Officers drove Green home and he went to several friends' homes to borrow their phone before he called his business manager. "They had hacked his google account from his phone and his cash app. So, I reset his passwords," said DJ Ramsey, Manager.

DJ Ramsey helped police track Green's phone and said they found the car behind another QuikTrip near 51st and Harvard. "We're banging on his door. We're like, 'dude, we've got to go. Tulsa Police got your car,'" said Ramsey.

"The guy was running with my vest on. He was running with my freaking vest like what was he doing? Had my work vest. He was trying to go deliver some Prime or something," said Green.

They said Green's phone was in the vehicle from the QT that had parked next to Green's car. Green said that car followed his stolen car to the second QuikTrip. Green said the car with the phone inside was found at an apartment complex near 47th and Harvard, and said police got a search warrant to get a phone out.

Green said they stole his cologne and one of his favorite sweatshirts. "They took my freaking Taco Bell. My free meal. It was eaten and just trashed in the car. They left the fries in the middle console and on the floor. It's super disrespectful," said Green.
