The formula shortage in the United States has many families wondering where their baby’s next bottle is coming from. The ongoing shortage made a metro organization open their services to all Oklahomans.

As the baby formula shortage continues, Infant Crisis Services is noticing a common theme.

“With the formula shortage the playing field is level. No matter a family’s background, economic background, they are not finding formula on the shelves. We want to help anyone that needs it find formula for their baby,” said Allison Parker, the Director Development Services at Infant Crisis Services.

It was an observation that led Infant Crisis Services to open their doors to all.

“We’ve heard a lot of families who have come to Infant Crisis to receive formula they have gone to multiple grocery stores, and they can’t find it,” she said.

With nowhere to turn, she said thousands of families are now depending on their services.

“From January to May in 2021 we served 6,000 clients. From January to May this year we have served 8,000 so there is a big increase. In just April and may we have served 1,000 more clients,” said the Director of Development Services.

Families who go to the center will receive 32 oz formula, 50 diapers and table food for their baby if they need it.

“It’s hard if you don’t know where your baby’s bottle will come from, their next meal. They can’t miss a meal it is detrimental to their growth,” said Parker.

The center is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They ask families to call and make an appointment before coming in.

“In terms of our stock here at infant crisis we are okay. We have a good amount of stock in our warehouse for little babies that need the formula,” she said.

While they remain hopeful that factories will open back up and stock the shelves, they are ready to keep helping Oklahomans through the shortage.

“We are serving 20 counties right now including Oklahoma County. And we take our services on wheels essentially, so we have our BabyMobile schedule on our website. They are out 3-4 times a week providing those serviced to surrounding counties. An appointment is not needed for these services,” said the Director of Development Services.
