There hasn't been a single week in 2022 without a mass shooting, and now questions are flying all over how do I protect myself in this type of situation?

Last week, seven people were killed at a Fourth of July Parade in Chicago.

Six weeks ago, terror hit our state as a man attacked Saint Francis Hospital.

"We are doing everything we can as an office to get everyone prepared," said Hiram Tabler with the Oklahoma Homeland Security.

He said training for first responders has always been in place, but now with Governor Kevin Stitt's executive order, there is an effort to make sure OHP troopers across the state all have the same training. and can work seamlessly with local police.

But what if you are the one caught in this scary situation? Homeland Security said there are only three things you can do:

Run, hide, or act.

As Oklahoma is a constitutional carry state, you can protect yourself, but officials said it doesn't have to be all about being the hero.

"If they act, they need to understand the consequences to that they could save a life or affect some other areas too," said Tabler.
