A former Oklahoma City police officer is no longer facing domestic abuse and sex crime charges in connection with a Nov. 2021 arrest.
Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater told News 9 that three charges filed against Luis Maldonado -- first-degree rape, domestic abuse by strangulation and threatening an act of violence -- were dismissed Thursday ahead of a trial set to begin later this month.
Maldonado's Nov. 2021 arrest came approximately two weeks after a jury acquitted him of similar crimes against an ex-girlfriend in 2019.

Prater said jail phone calls between Maldonado and the latest victim revealed the victim allegedly apologized to Maldonado and asserted that the assault was, instead, a misunderstanding.
Because the victim allegedly told Maldonado that the rape didn't happen, Prater said the district attorney's office can't bring the case to trial.
This is a developing story. News 9's Jennifer Pierce will have more on this story tonight on News 9 at 5 p.m.
