This year, American Education Week runs from November 13 through November 19. It's a time to recognize people who work in public schools. Broken Arrow Public Schools teacher Kelsee Arnold said that educators have a major impact on the kids they teach or interact with daily. Arnold also understands that it takes a full community to give the best for students.
"Teaching is not done alone and everything that I feel that I kind of embody in my practice and in my beliefs as a teacher, I have learned from others. That’s kind of the beauty of teaching is it’s a compilation of a lot of different influences," Arnold said.
Not only is educating students a group effort from everybody in a school district, but Arnold said that her students are also a huge source of inspiration for her.
"My students are 100% my inspiration for everything I do. I truly believe that what I’m doing each day has to be tailored to meet their individual needs," Arnold said.
Arnold is also up for State Teacher of the Year in Oklahoma, but she says she wouldn't be where she is without the help of her fellow educators. Arnold said that she's honored and grateful for her community supporting and believing in her enough to put her up for the award. Arnold also said that she's thankful for the increased awareness on education, because it allows her and everyone else in the district to continue to make a positive impact on students.
