A driver who nearly killed an Edmond Police officer appeared in court on Monday.
An attorney for Garrett Trammell, 24, asked a judge to reduce her client’s bond, which had previously been set at $950,000.
Present for the hearing was Edmond Police Sgt. Joe Wells. In a gut wrenching impact statement, Wells’ spouse, also an Edmond Police officer, described how her family’s life was altered forever.
"Joe's been hurt, it's bad, but he's alive. We have to go now," Well's wife said officers told her when they arrived to her house to inform her of Sgt. Well's condition.
Once at the hospital, Wells’ wife described how she found her husband severely injured following the crash.
In Monday’s hearing, An Oklahoma City Police detective also took the stand.
He testified that prior to colliding into Wells, while driving a a pickup truck, Trammell had struck three other motorists.
The officer said Trammel had been driving 41 mph when he struck into Wells, and never attempted to stop.
In a civil suit filed on Dec. 30, defendant Joe Wells is seeking compensation from Trammell and the company he was working for at the time of the crash. The suit cited gross negligence.
