Families from all over the state of Oklahoma drive to Arcadia Lake for family fun.
The City of Edmond wants to know what people think should be added to the lake in the future.
Two years ago, the City of Edmond created a task force of community members with a goal to update the lake. Now, they're ready to hear what the public wants as they prepare their master plan.
“During COVID-19 we obviously, like most people, saw a huge uptick in people coming out and using our lake facilities as people were trying to get out and do new things. With that, we started to learn where we needed some improvements, where things maybe weren’t what they should be because of the influx of users,” Casey Moore, the Interim Parks & Rec. Director, said.
The city is asking Oklahomans to fill out a survey on their website with what they want to see funded at Arcadia Lake in the future.
“We’re asking where people are coming from to go to the lake, we ask people to enter their address. How often do you use the lake, and then ‘if we were going to invest in different amenities what would your top 5 be?” Moore said.
The plan, set to be presented in a few months, will lay out all projects for the next 25 years. RV camping, a waterpark, and even a lakeside restaurant are options on the survey.
“We’re not trying to limit ourselves, we are trying to really take a hard look at everything and through this part of the process, we really want to know what people want,” he said.
The city also has a blank space for those with other ideas.
“We had a wide range of stakeholders with a wide range of interests so really brought forward the dreams for what could be at Arcadia Lake,” he said.
The survey is open until Feb. 6. After that, they will compile all of that data to see what improvements they can move forward with.
“Some people want more nature focused activities, some people want more water focused activities, some people want more leisure focused activities,” he said.
