UPDATE 2/6/23 3:42 p.m.: The Chevy Impala was found in Oklahoma City, and the investigation is ongoing, according to Oklahoma City Police.
A Guthrie family was left in shock on Saturday after thieves made off with thousands of dollars of their property. The family's storage building was nearly emptied and a priceless heirloom among the items stolen. The Short family is offering a reward for the return of the 1962 Chevrolet Impala they said cannot be replaced.
It is safe to say the family loves their cars and to work on them. The Shorts’ kept car parts, tools, motorcycles, and trailers in a warehouse that was burglarized.
“Somebody got a lot of stuff,” said BD Short, burglary victim.
Including BD Short's late father's treasured Impala.
“It’s almost exactly the anniversary of dad’s passing, and I inherited that car,” said Short.
The car has given the family more than 30 years of cherished memories.
“He took my grandma on dates every Wednesday in it,” said Margaret Short,. “And make sure it was perfectly shiny. You never saw dust on that car ever.”
Guthrie police are investigating the family's devastating loss. A theft that now impacts the community.
“One of the officers that was over there this morning he asked about using that car in his wedding a few years ago,” said Short. “I think Officer Hamilton is taking this a little personal.”
The Shorts’ said if they get any of the stolen property returned, they want it to be the car.
“That’s the one meaningful thing to us is that car,” said Short.
Contact the Guthrie Police Department with information about the stolen car or the suspects involved.
