Plans for a brand-new football stadium at Crossroads Mall are on pause.
The United Football League (UFL) announced plans in December to partner with the Crossroads Mall to bring a brand-new stadium on the southside parking lot .
The partnership is on pause after business handlings between the Crossroads Convention Center CEO Carri Lawrence and UFL commissioner Joe McClendon.
The space was supposed to break ground in February, but McClendon was suspicious after being asked to wire the money to the Crossroads Convention Center, not the mall.
According to McClendon, Lawrence had no part in the deal, she was a representative of the mall.
“I have been in contact with the owners of the mall and am getting my legal involved”, McClendon said.
Lawrence said McClendon failed to provide the $10,000 deposit, instead he wired $5,000.
“He claimed he had the money for 14 stadiums, and it was a go,” Lawrence said.
Now, the OKC Wranglers do not have a place to kickoff their opening game against the Houston Bighorns.
“We will be playing in April, and I plan on sending out a press release, we are looking for a temporary building," McClendon said.
