The Choctaw Police Department is warning parents about a social media scheme circulating on the social media app Instagram.

Choctaw Police said the person or persons pose as an older woman, and asks to exchange nude photos. The person then threatens to post them all over the Internet if the minor does not send her $500.

Authorities tell News 9 the victims are male and as young as 14-years-old, and that the department encourages parents to not send the money and report it to authorities right away.

“We encourage people to report these on an FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, and that way they can keep an eye on certain things that are happening on social media," Choctaw Police chief Kelly Marshal said.

Marshall said it can be very difficult to catch the people behind these schemes, but reporting it to authorities helps.
