An Edmond Santa Fe High School student's sudden death this week has caused an outpouring of support.
Aiden Reese’s family and classmates took part in an Honor Walk on Wednesday at Integris Baptist Medical Center.
Family and friends lined the hallways at the hospital to honor the 15-year-old just before his organs were harvested by LifeShare of Oklahoma medical staff.
Supporters showed up in Reese's favorite sports team shirts. Memories of the teenager flooded the minds and hearts of this group.
“He loved Yankees, and he loved messing with his dad because he like OSU,” Jake Guttery, Reese’s cousin, said.
Guttery stood with relatives and Santa Fe High School classmates as a LifeShare flag was raised outside the hospital for the young organ donor.
“This is their last goodbye with Aiden, and we send all of our support to them,” Heather Dean, with LifeShare of Oklahoma, said. “As they continue their grief journey and navigate these new days ahead.”
Reese's parents made the choice to donate his organs following his unexpected death. The family's heartbreaking loss will now save seven lives.
“Hundreds of people came to see him,” Guttery said. “So, he’s loved and supported by everybody.”
Those who could not attend the Honor Walk at the hospital took part in a peaceful walk-out on the campus of Santa Fe High School.
“I feel like I should stand up for him because he can’t stand up for himself anymore,” Habiba Amin, a student, said.
Not everyone at the walk-out knew Reese but knew of his struggles, they said went unheard.
“It’s just really sad to know he was going through all that and nobody knew expect for the school,” Ainsley Watson, a student, said.
Reese’s father told News 9 off-camera he wants his son’s name remembered and to stand for something.
