The Cincinnati Police Department refiled a first degree misdemeanor criminal charge of Aggravated Menacing against Joe Mixon, who is a former running back for the Sooners, on Friday, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Mixon was initially charged early February before the Hamilton County (Ohio) Municipal Court dismissed them the next day, but now the running back has been summoned to appear in court April 19. He was initially charged for allegedly pointing a firearm at a woman.
The prosecution released the following statement after the initial charge was dismissed:
"The Cincinnati Police Department were able to get in contact with the victim. She understands the need to dismiss this case and the potential that we could refile this at a later date. She does still want to go forward with this charge if we do decide to refile it."
This refiling reopens the possibility for Mixon to potentially be subject to criminal punishment, not also discounting the possibility of punishment from the NFL. Mixon remains under contract with the Bengals through 2024.
