All of the Shawnee Public Schools soft lockdowns have been lifted Tuesday afternoon, according to Shawnee Police.
In an email the district sent to parents, they said all students and staff are safe.
Police said an arrest was made in connection to a disturbance in the community as a result of a Tecumseh Police investigation.
Tecumseh Police said a man was fired from a business Tuesday morning and made threats to his children who were enrolled at Shawnee Public Schools.
While police searched for the suspect, the schools were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.
The suspect was located and is being held at the safety center.
A soft lockdown means that students are kept inside the locked building, and classes are conducted as normal.
Superintendent April Grace sent the following letter to parents:
Dear Shawnee Public School Families:
I want to inform you that currently all Shawnee Public Schools sites are placed on a soft lockdown. First and foremost, all students and staff are safe.
On the advice of the Shawnee Police Department and out of an abundance of caution, the schools have been placed on soft lockdown due to a domestic disturbance in the community. A soft lockdown means that students are kept inside the locked building and classes are conducted as normal. We will remain in the soft lockdown until law enforcement advises us otherwise.
There is nothing more important to Shawnee Public Schools than the safety, health and well-being of our students and staff. We are grateful for our partnership with local law enforcement that allows us to quickly make informed decisions that keep our students and staff safe.
Thank you for your support of Shawnee Public Schools.
