Suspect Confirmed Dead After Pursuit, Standoff Ends In Canute

One person is dead after a shooting and pursuit involving Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers Friday in Washita County.

Troopers said this started when a man was making threats towards a car dealership in Elk City, Oklahoma.

When the suspect left the dealership, Elk City Police engaged in a short pursuit before calling it off.

The suspect was seen driving erratically and hit a motorcycle driver before OHP located them. The motorcycle driver is expected to be okay.

OHP engaged in a pursuit when they located the suspect before the suspect crashed out and barricaded themself in Canute, Oklahoma.

The suspect then called 911 and told dispatch that he was armed and began firing at troopers multiple times.

At first, troopers didn’t return fire but eventually they did.

After the exchange of gunfire, troopers didn't notice any movement in the suspect’s vehicle where they found them dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
