This month, Oklahoma’s state mental health department is increasing the accessibility of the medication Naloxone to combat fentanyl overdoses.

In the spirit of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is offering free Naloxone and plans to launch Naloxone vending machines. They have placed 75 billboards around the state and are also adding messaging to local buses to silence the stigma around substance abuse.

Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse drug overdose from opioids, including fentanyl. The medication binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of opioid drugs.
