The community has donated nearly $19,000 in two days to a family whose toddler was hit and killed at a drive-thru in Yukon.

As of Monday evening, 489 people collectively contributed $18,909 to the family of 2-year-old Ismael Perez via their GoFundMe page. The family told News 9 the fundraiser will remain open through Friday.

Yukon Police said the toddler was walking with his parents when a vehicle hit him in one of the drive-thru lanes at the Chick-fil-A on Garth Brooks Boulevard. The collision happened at about 11:49 a.m. Saturday.

First-responders administered first aid before rushing the toddler to a hospital, where he died, police said.

Police said they were planning to interview the driver of the vehicle who hit the child and urged anyone with information to call 405-354-2553.

News 9 reached out to Yukon Police on Monday to ask whether there was an update on the investigation. But News 9 had not heard back as of Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Chad Gerlt, the owner and operator of the restaurant, sent News 9 the following statement:

"We are incredibly saddened by the tragic accident that occurred outside of our restaurant on Saturday. We are assisting authorities with their investigation and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time."

Also reacting to the news was Yukon Mayor Shelli Selby.

"My heart is breaking and sending prayers for the family whose child died (Saturday) at ChickFilA. Also praying for the person who hit the child, the Police, Fire and EMT's who worked the scene. Such a tragedy for everyone involved," Selby posted on Facebook.

Someone set up a memorial outside the restaurant in memory of Perez, featuring a stuffed animal and some flowers.
