Lymyser Sweet was born 100 years ago today, and though she has lived a full life, she still has plenty of spunk as she celebrates being hundred years young.
“Wonderful, I feel great,” said Lymyser Sweet.
Ms. Sweet, or Mike to her family and friends, grew up on a farm picking cotton. Well, her siblings picked cotton and she spent her time being on the cart with the cotton being pulled by her dad’s tractor.
“Those were some days that I’ll never forget,” said Sweet.
She attended Douglas High School, where she was a part of history.
“I was in the first cosmetology class at Douglas High School,” said Sweet.
That cosmetology class would lead to a lifelong career as a nail technician.
“I worked at Waterford beauty salon, and I worked at Nichols Hill salon,” said Sweet.
She left the salons at age 93, still doing personal appointments, and became a foster grandparent at Millwood.
“I worked in this first grade class, doing whatever I could do to help. Grading papers and passing out papers,” said Sweet.
She did that job until she was 95 years old.
“Finally, I got to where I couldn’t do that anymore, so I had to hang that up,” said Sweet.
Now at 100 years old, Ms. Sweet still loves a good night at the casinos.
“But we are just really going to have a little fun,” said Sweet.
There are two priorities for Mrs. Sweet, her family and her God.
“The Lord is my shepherd, and I don’t want nothing else,” said Sweet.
With family always around, she reflects back on her 100 years.
“I couldn’t ask for it to have been any better,” said Sweet.
Mrs. Sweet had a big celebration over the weekend and tonight she will celebrate with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids stopping by for dinner.
