The University of Oklahoma announced that Lindsey Street will once again be open for tailgating. It was a hot spot for years, causing many fans to fight for it's return.

"Everybody walks through here. And for it to just be barren and dead is kind of sad," said Eddie Radosevich, the man behind the Make Lindsey Street Great Again campaign.

"It kind of started out as a little bit of a bit," Eddie said. "But it is a reality that Oklahoma needs to expand its tailgating atmosphere."

With the SEC looming, it was time for a change.

"Oklahoma hasn't had something that resembles a quote-on-quote SEC style tailgate in a long time," Eddie said.

For years, Lindsey Street has sat vacant on gamedays. But after Tuesday’s announcement, Sooner fans hope for an SEC-style gameday experience has been renewed.

The University of Oklahoma announced that tailgating will be allowed on the grassy area of Lindsey just south of the stadium.

"There's a sense of pride. I think that's what makes college football so great. Everybody comes back and you remember all the good times,” said Eddie. “And I think there's probably a lot of people who have had some really good times just south of the stadium here."

University of Oklahoma Sophomore Alex Vieira is looking forward to those good times this season.

"I'm super excited," he said. "Being able to meet people, eat great food and then go straight into the game off Lindsey Street, it's going to be a great combo."

Fans say the timing is perfect with the move to the SEC.

"I'm expecting a lot of competitive football and I think a good change to come along with that is more space for tailgating," Alex said.

No matter what happens in the stadium, many fans say you never lose a tailgate.

"You want to have a gameday atmosphere that you can be proud of, and I think Oklahoma fans have been longing for this for a while," Eddie said.
