An Oklahoma City man was arrested and is accused of leading officers on a chase with children in his vehicle.
Oklahoma City Police initiated a traffic stop at around 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 18 near Northeast 23rd Street and North Kelley Avenue after they witnessed two small children standing up in the backseat of the vehicle.
When an officer spoke to the driver, Charles Frederick, 40, who said he didn’t have insurance on the vehicle, police said.
Police then had the driver sign two citations and informed him that his vehicle was going to be impounded.
The vehicle then fled the scene at a high rate of speed on North Kelly Avenue before he was seen swerving in the northbound lanes, police said.
Police said the vehicle approached a construction zone near Northeast 36th Street when the driver made a left turn without yielding to oncoming traffic.
The pursuit was then terminated due to the driver’s erratic driving and unsafe speed, police said.
Police said they later found the vehicle at the address the driver gave them at the traffic stop.
Frederick eventually came out of his apartment and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on the complaints of child endangerment and eluding a police officer.
