Sporting event shootings have pushed school districts to take action to ensure everyone in attendance is safe.

Metal detectors were recently installed at Del City schools, but not at Choctaw.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) said they leave it up to the school districts to decide what safety measures they want to implement.

"It's hard for us to say you all need to go get metal detectors. Some schools are better equipped to do that than others," David Jackson with OSSAA said.

"We would certainly provide funding for those rural schools for instance if they were hosting our playoff contest," Jackson said.

Officials said they are working with other state sporting associations for ideas to keep Oklahomans safe.
