Multiple agencies were involved in the sharing of intel to identify and arrest a 15-year-old deadly shooting suspect.
Editor's Note: Charges have been dismissed against Dayvion Hamilton by the district attorney.
Dayvion Hamilton is accused of shooting and killing 16-year-old Cordea Carter at a Choctaw High School football game last Friday.
Shortly after gunfire filled Choctaw High School football stadium Friday night, police went to work tracking down a shooting suspect. Oklahoma City Police were called to the scene.
“We responded to that scene, but it was to assist in crowd control and initially looking for the suspect,” said Chief Wade Gourley, Oklahoma City Police Department.
According to court documents filed by Choctaw police, a witness identified the person who shot and killed Carter by the nickname "Bullet." The nickname was given to Oklahoma City police crime analysts to identify the suspect. Hamilton’s name came back.
“We’ve had an idea of who we wanted since early Saturday morning,” said Chief Kelly Marshall, Choctaw Police Department. “But any investigator knows it takes a while to put a case together. You don’t want to just put a name out there, it’s dangerous to put a name out there without having an arrest warrant.”
With a warrant in hand, Oklahoma City's violent crime apprehension team, Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office deputies, and the U.S. Marshals Service went looking for Hamilton.
“Once we did identify that he was in a particular house, he was in Spencer,” said Gourley. “We were able to contain that and call everyone out of the house and get the suspect in custody.”
Hamilton was arrested without incident early Wednesday morning. A relief to investigating law agencies.
“We are going to do everything we can to let our citizens and students know they are safe,” said Marshall.
Choctaw police are testing ballistics to determine if Hamilton's gun shot a 15-year-old girl in the leg. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting incident that wounded a 42-year-old man.
