Police arrested a teenager early Wednesday morning on a second-degree murder complaint for the deadly shooting Friday night at a high school football game in Choctaw.
Editor's Note: Charges have been dismissed against Dayvion Hamilton by the district attorney.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office arrested 15-year-old Dayvion Hamilton from Spencer at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. An arrest affidavit shows a witness saw Hamilton approaching Carter “closely while firing a gun.”
According to police officials, this all started with an argument.
A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot.
A 15-year-old girl was shot and survived.
An off-duty Del-City officer shot a 42-year-old man in the chest who is currently recovering at OU Health.
“That is still under investigation,” said Sheriff Tommie Johnson of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office. “They are still working through all of that.”
Midwest City High School student Cordae Carter lost his life. Carter was 16-years-old.
“Had the biggest smile,” said Jerome Taylor, Carter’s former teacher.
“Our community and our students have experienced a trauma that no one should have to go through,” said Chief Kelly Marshall, with the Choctaw Police Department.
Oklahoma City's violent crime apprehension team, Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office deputies, and the U.S. Marshals Service helped make this arrest possible.
“Today we really want to thank the agencies involved in apprehending the suspect,” Johnson said.
Chief Wade Gourley with the Oklahoma City Police Department said working in teams helps catch suspects faster.
“So that criminals don’t have a chance to cross jurisdictions and get away with something,” Gourley said.
“It takes a village to keep a community safe,” Johnson said. “I’m very proud of the organizations involved.”
The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office would not comment on whether Hamilton will be charged as a juvenile or an adult.
