The Cleveland County law enforcement community is mourning their fallen colleague. Sheriff’s deputy Jordan Cannon was killed on Wednesday.
Investigators have arrested her husband, a fellow deputy.
On Thursday, outside the Cleveland County Courthouse, people gathered together.
“Thank you for coming to honor Jordan,” said Sheriff Chris Amason, to a crowd outside Cleveland County Courthouse. “Jordan was a beautiful, beautiful human being.”
Everyone who knew Cannon celebrated her life.
“Every time you saw her, she had a kind word and big old smile,” Amason said.
Cannon’s absence added a fresh wound to those who loved her.
“She will truly leave a void,” Amason said.
Amason said her character shined through the work beyond her badge.
“She truly loved kids and serving the community,” Amason said.
Cannon read to children at school and carried a passion for public service. Her death produces emotions only her family can understand.
“I ask myself over and over, why? Why did this happen?” Amason said.
People who came to this courthouse on this night hope that Jordan’s death is not in vain.
“We are going to honor her,” Amason said. “We’re going to honor her memory.”
Their wish is for people to witness the light Jordan shone on the people as they hold on to a spirit that will never die.
“We love you and we’ll miss you,” said Amason, as the vigil closed with a prayer and a moment of silence.
