A metro hotel worker was shot overnight while checking on rooms. Oklahoma City police said a hotel guest shot the employee claiming he saw the shadow of a possible intruder in his front window.
Police said the victim had a non-life-threatening injury and the suspect surrendered to officers at the scene.
Police were called around 2 a.m. on Tuesday to the OYO Hotel on the Interstate 35 Service Road near Southeast 29th Street.
The hotel clerk told officers he was making rounds to the rooms trying to find the owner of a vehicle stuck in mud when he became involved in an altercation with a guest. The suspect opened fire from the room and shot the employee in the shoulder. The victim was taken to a local hospital while the suspect remained in his room.
“It’s unclear why the shooting started it’s certainly something our investigators are trying to piece together at this time,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “The important part is nobody was killed.”
Officers called the suspect out of the room. Police said he peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody. No one else was injured by the gunfire.
